Modoggie

The story of MoDoggies
(In the words of MoDoggie himself)

Sometime in the 1930's or 40's, maybe even in the 20's, on the corner of Torrey and North Rds. in Fenton, Michigan a gas station was built. And it stayed a full service gas station for many, many years. The kind where a gentleman would actually come out and pump your gas for you, check your oil and 'clean the bugs' off your windshield. They did it all from changing a belt to changing an engine.
In 1975 a liquor license became available (please E-mail me if anybody can remember the name of the Tavern the license came from).
Anyway, a couple of enterprising gentlemen decided to purchase that license and move it. And move it they did!
They bought the Phillipps 66 gas station on the corner of Torrey and North Rds. and turned it into a Bar Restaurant called The Cedar Mill Lounge.
At first the Cedar Mill thrived, a nice new clean meeting, eating and socializing place that many people flocked to.
The place went through about 5 or 6 different owner operators.
In the later years of the Cedar Mills existence it fell on hard times. It became kind of a 'rough place', quit serving food and generally fell out of grace with the community.
Then early in 1992 negotiations began between Carol Walker, (the current owner), and Michael DeMoss. After 9 months of negotiations and legal wrangling, Mr. DeMoss took over the bar as sole stockholder.
Mr. DeMoss (lets just call him Michael) knew he had to do something to change the image of the bar to try to get people to come back to the club and it had to be drastic. Well one night, sittng around Jimmy Gs' restaurant, with his then future wife Paula and his good friend Rod Bowles, they were thinking of new names for the Cedar Mill. Rod just wanted to call it 'BAR'!, Michael came up with the Pontoon Saloon, Paula kinda liked Paula's Pub. Then somebody came up with MoDog (which is Michaels nickname). After much prodding by Rod and Paula, Michael went along with MoDoggies Bar and Grill. Michael still kinda liked the Pontoon Saloon! But after we came up with the 'logo' and concept, Michael felt pretty good about it.
So on Dec 13, 1992 the new sign went up and we started answering the phone "MoDoggies can I help you"!
Since then MoDoggies has been a driving force in the community, live music, refreshing menu ideas and innovative ways to meet, greet and socialize with friends and family.
Unfortunately not everything has been 'Peaches and Cream' in the history of MoDoggie's. In January of 1998 a devastating fire occurred nearly destroying the entire place. After 6 months, and a quarter million dollars, MoDoggie's is back and better than ever!
